Student Handbook
Section I > Introduction
Medical Students are the heart and soul of the Medical Department. These individuals are important as they become the new generation of future specialists who will save lives in the field. Medical Students are less knowledgeable and lack experience, and because of this, these individuals require guidance from members that are more adept in their duties.
Medical Students are required to complete several assignments specifically fine-tuned towards helping them learn. Once these assignments have been completed, Medical Students will be assessed on the knowledge that they have gained throughout their time as a Medical Student. If the results are satisfactory, they will advance.
Section II > Medical School
Medical School is referred to as the training phase all Medical Student have to complete. Only that here it doesn't cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. During this time, you’ll be taught on how to efficiently work with the medical system, as well as how to handle your medical duties.
To start, Medical Students have 30 days to complete the following requirements to be eligible for a promotion to nurse;
Medical Orientation
Medical Students will join the game and go through a small tour of the institute, hosted by a Senior Physician or above. The tour will cover areas you need to know such as the layout of the Medical Wing, the combative elevator and of course the Medical Outpost. By the end of the tour you will have gained a basic understanding of with areas relate to your role here at Paragon. After the site tour, all students will return to the Medical Wing to go over the primary guideline, the medical system, and more. At the end of the orientation, the host may optionally host a small test to demonstrate that they have acquired the basic knowledge before concluding with the Hippocratic Oath.On-Site Activity
To promote gaining on-site experience, Medical Students who have completed a Medical Orientation are required to log 2 hours of total on-site activity as a member of the Medical Department.Department Membership
Before a Medical Student is allowed to take the final exam, they must have been in the department for a minimum of three days.Medical Student Final Exam
Once a Medical Student has completed all previous requirements, they will be given an exam on the information that has been presented to them. All information in the test will have been taught in the previous phases or is freely available in the documentation. To pass the exam, students must achieve a score of at least 17 out of 21. Medical Students after submitting their final exam must request a Senior Physician to grade it and then make a promotion request.
Logging completed requirements
Anything hosted by a command member does not need to be logged by you, as it is their responsibility to do so.
The Department Membership requirement is automatically marked as completed by the database once the three days are over, meaning this also does not need to be logged by you unless there is an obvious mistake.
When logging something not mentioned in the previous two points, you will go into the #request-hub, where you will fill out the format that is pinned in the Discord channel. Once your requirement has been logged on the Medical Department database, the command member that logged it will react to your message with a checkmark, signifying that it has been logged.
If your requirement that you sent in has not been logged by a command member within 48 hours of the initial request, message a Senior Physician+ to log it for you. Do not message them before that 48 hour period though.
Section III > Medical Malpractice
Medical Malpractice is the act of deviating from standard operating procedures when administering healthcare, or failing to deliver adequate healthcare to a patient. So to put it simply, Medical Malpractice is breaking any Medical Department guideline on healthcare to patients.
As this is considered one of the worst acts one can do, all members of the Medical Department are subject to consequences should they perform medical malpractice. However, it does come without saying that sometimes healthcare professionals need to deviate from standard procedures for the betterment of the patient. That is why medical malpractice only applies when there are physical and/or mental repercussions to the incident. Due to the flexibility of malpractice, an investigation will be launched to determine if the healthcare professional truly acted in the patient's best interest.
Section IV > Regulations & Restrictions
As a Medical Student, there are limitations on what you are allowed to do on-site, but don't worry, you will eventually be granted more permissions. Medical Command is allowed to let you bypass some of these restrictions and O5 Council members and above may of course void them entirely if you're ordered to do something.
Below are all of the limitations placed on you as a Medical Student;
Medical Outpost (MO): Once you've completed a Medical Orientation, you may enter the MO under supervision of Resident or above. However, you are at no point are you allowed to enter the Inner Class-D Containment Zone.
Medical Duties: You will not be able to conduct any medical duties without an orientation completed unless there are no personnel ranking Nurse+ nearby.
Tolerance Policy: As a Medical Student you are on a zero tolerance policy. If you break any of the above regulations, you will be punished accordingly.
